Volleyball hits the courts across FVSD

It was a busy weekend for Volleyball action around Fort Vermilion School Division as teams spent their Saturday facing off in the communities of Fort Vermilion, La Crete, and High Level.

On Saturday, the Sr. Girls were in High Level.

Fort Vermilion Public School Sr. Girls went 1-1 this weekend, with a win over High Level and a loss to Jon D’Or Prairie School. The team won in straight sets against High Level with scores of 25-15 and 25-18. Their match against JDP went three sets. JDP won the first set 25-20, and then FVPS rebounded with a closely-fought 26-24 victory before falling in the third set 15-11.

La Crete Public School Sr. Girls won three straight games on Saturday, beating Jon D’Or Prairie School, Rainbow Lake School, and High Level Public School. La Crete beat JDP in straight sets with scores of 25-21 and 25-22. Against Rainbow Lake, the team won again in straight sets with scores of 25-9 and 25-22. They beat High Level in straight sets with scores of 25-21 and 25-22.

High Level Public School Sr. Girls were busy on the weekend with games against four teams. It was a tough weekend for the HLPS Sr. Girls as they went 0-4 on their home turf, dropping games to Fort Vermilion Public School, Chief Tall Cree High School, and Sister Gloria School.

Rainbow Lake School also had a tough weekend as they lost against La Crete Public School and Jon D’Or Prairie School.

Saturday saw the Sr. Boys teams competing in Fort Vermilion.

Rainbow Lake School went 1-2 on Saturday beginning with a win over Sister Gloria School followed by losses to La Crete Public School and High Level Public School. The team beat Sister Gloria School in straight sets with scores of 25-23 and 25-20.

High Level Public School Sr. Boys went 2-1 on the weekend with wins against Fort Vermilion Public School and Sister Gloria School and a loss to La Crete Public School. Against FVPS, they dropped their first game 25-22 but then rallied to win the next two games by scores of 25-19 and 15-12. The team beat Sister Gloria School in straight sets with scores of 25-20 and 25-22 and then lost their match against LCPS.

La Crete Public School Sr. Boys went 3-0 on Saturday with victories against Jon D’Or Prairie School, Rainbow Lake School, and High Level Public School. Their win against JDP came as a result of a forfeit. They beat Rainbow Lake in straight sets with scores of 25-17 and 25-14. They went on to beat High Level 2-1 by taking the first game 25-22 and dropping the second game 25-21. In the final set, LCPS won with a score of 15-6.

Fort Vermilion Public School Sr. Boys went 2-0 on Saturday beginning with a forfeit by Jon D’Or Prairie School and then a 2-1 victory over Rainbow Lake School. FVPS dropped the first set to Rainbow Lake 26-24 but then rebounded with a 25-21 win and another with a score of 15-10.

The next round of Seniors Volleyball action will be taking place on of Oct. 5, when boys teams will be playing in High Level and the girls will be playing in La Crete.

In Junior Volleyball action, Junior Girls teams played on Saturday in La Crete.

La Crete Public School Jr. “A” Girls went 4-0 on Saturday with wins over Rocky Lane, Jon D’Or Prairie, Chateh, and High Level “B”. They defeated Rocky Lane School in straight sets 25-7 and 25-17. They beat JDP by a final score of 2-1. After taking the first set 25-17 and dropping the second 25-16, they rallied for the third and took the set 15-7. They went on to beat Chateh in straight sets 25-10 and 25-13, and then they beat High Level “B” by a count of 2-1. They won the first set 25-12 before dropping the second set 25-22 and rallying for a 15-4 victory in the third.

La Crete Jr. “B” Girls went 0-2 on Saturday with losses to High Level Public School and Fort Vermilion Public School.

High Level Public School Jr. “B” Girls went 2-1 in three games on Saturday with wins against La Crete “B” and Chateh, and a loss to La Crete “A”. They beat La Crete “B” in straight sets 25-15 and 25-10. They beat Chateh in straight sets 25-5 and 25-15.

Rocky Lane School Jr. Girls split their Saturday, dropping games against La Crete “A” and winning against Rainbow Lake in straight sets 25-5 and 25-17.

The Rainbow Lake School Jr. Girls went 0-2 Saturday with a loss to Sister Gloria School and then a loss to Rocky Lane.

Fort Vermilion Public School Jr. Girls split their games on Saturday with a loss to Jon D’Or Prairie School and a win over the La Crete “B” squad in straight sets 25-4 and 25 to 15.
