November 30, 2021

ASAA 2A Boys Volleyball Provincial Championships – November 25-27, 2021

La Crete Lancers are celebrating a GOLD MEDAL win this week!

“The Lancers Senior Boys volleyball had an outstanding season! The boys walked away from this season with an undefeated gold medal record, winning the Grand Prairie Pow Wow tournament, the Peace Classic tournament, the Divisional tournament, the Zone tournament, and Provincials. The boys constantly worked hard, practicing three times a week, and consistently improving on both individual skills and working as a team. The boys earned and deserved all the success they had this year!” said Lancers Head Coach, Jade DeCoste.

The Lancers Senior Boys team are the ASAA 2A Volleyball Provincial Champions, bringing home a gold medal from last weekend’s Championship. The tournament was held November 25-27 at the Assumption Jr/Sr High School in Cold Lake, matches were also held at the Cold Lake Middle School.

Lancers were on the court bright and early for their first game at 9 AM Thursday, winning 2-1 against Edmonton Christian High. Their second game for the day was at 3 PM against Kate Andrews High, with the Lancers winning after 2 sets. Back on the court at 11 AM on Friday for a match against JR Robson – a hard fought game but unfortunately lost to the opposing team. With two wins and a loss under their belts the Lancers were on the court at 5 PM, winning 2-0 against Our Lady of Mount Pleasant Catholic School.

Finishing second in their pool the Senior Boys moved on to the Quarterfinals with a 9 AM game on Saturday against Assumption Jr/Sr High, winning 2-1 after three sets. Another three intense sets in the Semifinals against Calgary Christian School saw the Lancers win 2-1 sending the team on their way to the gold medal match at 7 PM!

With family and friends cheering them on from afar, the Lancers gave it their all in the final match! The game went for three sets with both teams fighting hard for the win. Lancers took the gold with a 2-1 win over Edmonton Christian High and finished the 2021 volleyball season with a well-deserved gold medal.

La Crete Public School Principal, Susan Ward is very proud of the dedication and hard work the Senior Boys Volleyball Team showed this year, saying “This exceptional group of young men has worked very hard this year. They spent many early mornings in our gym and the hard work has definitely paid off. They are not only talented athletes, but they are also wonderful representatives of our school. They demonstrate respectful behavior both on and off the court. Their coaches Jade DeCoste, Gilbert Morris and manager Tristan Martens have done an amazing job coaching them this year, we are very thankful for the many hours that they have put in with this team.” Congratulations to the La Crete Lancers Senior Boys team on a great season and a fantastic win!

With so many sports teams and activities being put on hold for the past two years, school teams have had many challenges with a significant amount of time lost for skill building and practice. Even though we’re only a few months in, Fort Vermilion School Division is proud of the hard work and commitment student athletes across the division have shown this year. FVSD coaches and team managers have worked hard to bring sports back for our kids and make this year as close to normal as we can safely get. We are looking forward to a great basketball season coming up and thank families for their continued support!
