High School students, especially those close to graduation, often find themselves asking "What will I do after high school?" Some may have a clear vision of what they want to pursue and others may need help answering that question. The resources on this page aim to help students with career planning. These resources can help those who have a clear idea of their plans as well as those who are seeking more guidance.

Local Bursary Information

Value: $2,000

Bursaries Available: 15

Deadline: The deadline for receipt of applications is the first Friday in June each year

Fort Vermilion School Division (FVSD) together with the Northern Alberta Development Council (NADC) have 15 bursaries available to encourage local students who have graduated from FVSD schools to return to the region upon post-secondary graduation.  Students may receive a bursary each year to a maximum of four years but must apply each year.  Below is a link to the complete guidelines and application form.

These bursaries are open to all students registered in the Fort Vermilion School Division continuing their education at an accredited tertiary intuition such as a university or college.   Preference will be given to the following:

• Students who work for Tolko Industries Ltd. 
• Children of employees who work for Tolko Industries Ltd.
• Students pursuing education in forestry or related studies, trades or technical training, sciences, or business studies
• Students with plans to return to the area on completion of their studies

Value: 2 bursaries of $1,000

The NADC Bursary Program offers return service bursaries to students, it is meant to encourage students to train for jobs that are in demand in northern Alberta.  Click on the link below for more information and for the online application.

NADC Bursary: Applications are due by April 30th for studies in the fall of the same calendar year.

First Nation, Metis and Inuit Bursary: Applications for a $6,000 or $10,000 bursary, depending on the type of program you are taking, are due June 1st and November 15th of the academic year it is awarded.

Medical and Dentistry Student Bursary: Applications for a $12,000 bursary are due by April 30th of each year. For information on the $24,000 option through a sponsor, please refer to the Bursary Partnership Program below.

Nurse Practitioner Bursary: Applications for a $9,000 bursary are due by April 30th of each year. For information on the $18,000 option through a sponsor, please refer to the Bursary Partnership Program below.

Pharmacy Student Bursary: Applications for a $6,000 bursary are due by April 30th of each year. For information on the $12,000 option through a sponsor, please refer to the Bursary Partnership Program below.

Veterinary Medicine - Large Animals: Applications for a $6,000 bursary are due by April 30th of each year. For information on the $12,000 option through a sponsor, please refer to the Bursary Partnership Program below.

Northern Student Teacher Bursary: Applications for a $16,000 bursary ($8,000 for each of your last two years) are due September 26, 2021.

Bursary Partnership Program: Businesses and organizations can submit forms according to individual sponsor deadline. The deadline is November 30 of each year unless arrangements are made in writing prior to this date. The application process runs from April 1 to November 30 of each year.
