Tips for parents to start the Reading Journey with preschoolers

Read early and read often to your children

Bedtime

• read to your child

• sing a song

• make up a story

• KIDTALK - talk to your child as they get ready for bed, "here are your red pajamas", "help me count your toes", etc.

Bath time

• say a nursery rhyme

• use foam letters, bath books or tub crayons

• KIDTALK - talk to your child while they are in the bathtub, "look at how the rubber duck floats", "watch the soap sink"

Meal time

• Ask your child to find the letters on containers, "where is the letter 'C', "find the letters that are in your name"
• Use alphabet fridge magnets to create words
• KIDTALK - talk to your child as they get ready for meals. "put a fork on the table for each person"
