No school for the students on January 29th

Alberta Health & Wellness issued a news release indicating the World Health Organization (WHO) has raised its alert level of the H1N1 Swine Flu to Phase 6, declaring the outbreak of the H1N1 virus a pandemic. The WHO’s declaration does not indicate the severity of the disease, but the degree to which the disease has spread worldwide.

The Public Health Agency of Canada is not recommending the closure of schools at this time, even if a confirmed case of H1N1 Influenza Virus is identified in a school. Recommended precautions to avoid transmission of the virus continue to be frequent hand washing and staying home if a fever or cough develops.

The health system is prepared and on alert and the general population remains at low-risk.  Updates and other information related to the H1N1 Virus are available at the Alberta Health Services website www.albertahealthservices.ca   or the Alberta Health and Wellness website at www.health.alberta.ca.  If you have questions, please contact your local Medical Officer of Health.
