Dear parents: As we are now in 2010 I find It amazing how fast the school year is going. The past five months have gone by quickly with so many things have been accomplished by our students and staff. Our students and staff have enjoyed nearly five months of great success in all areas. Ridgeview Central School is a wonderful place. Students and staff are now very much involved in the basketball season with two girls’ teams and one boys’ team. Our students are acquiring the basic basketball skills and are competing with older students from other school in the division and the region. All teams are doing extremely well. I would like to thank the coaching staff of Mr. Thiessen, Mr. Schellenberg, Ms. MacKay and Mr. Rasmussen for all their dedication and effort. Winter is officially here with temperatures and wind chills in the -20s and -30s. Over the past two weeks, the weather has been very cold with most days being an inside recesses due to the cold weather; we are all hoping that it warms up so that we can go outside and enjoy the fresh air. Please remind your children to dress appropriately. Here are a few reminders about the upcoming activities for the month of January, 2010: - January 21- Pizza Sales - January 25 – School Council Meeting - January 28 – Hot Lunch (Taco in a Bag) - January 28 – YOP Assembly - January 29 – PD Day (no school for students) We have a great group of students at Ridgeview that makes life very rewarding and enjoyable as an educator. Our students are talented academically, athletically, socially, in many areas of extra-curricular such as drama, sports, technology, music, chess, intramurals, house teams and so on. As a staff, we will be continuing to provide excellent programming that will bring the best out in each of our students. Our house team System is going really well and students and staff are having a lot of friendly competitions in all to build school spirit. As well, we will be doing the Amazing Reading Race this year with many exciting challenges for our students. All these strategies and goals for our school support the FVSD motto, “building success - success one student at a time”. The December Amazing Reading Challenge for the months of December/January was to read 5000 books. Please encourage your child or children to read books so we can reach the challenge. If our students meet the challenge, the students will get a nachos and juice reading time in the gymnasium. Thanks in advance for your continued support and I look forward to working with you again this year. If you have any questions or concerns; please give me a call at 780 928 3100. Finally, Ridgeview Central School would really appreciate you visiting our school at anytime. I Sincerely, Dean Wheeler Principal, Ridgeview Central School
