Supports for New Teachers Fort Vermilion School Division believes in the importance of supporting it’s professional and support staff. The collegial atmosphere of the Division provides a unique and comforting environment to new teachers. Many schools use common planning, common assessments and have formal mentorship programs. Fort Vermilion School Division has employed a Director of Literacy, Reading Specialist and Balanced Literacy Coordinator to provide support for teachers in the area of literacy and a Director of Climate & Culture to support teachers in classroom and school climate, as well as four Junior High Subject Coordinators. Fort Vermilion School Division has recently augmented it’s calendar to include 8 professional development days and also includes a curriculum support binder to all new teachers in the Division that are tailored to their teaching assignment. Staff enjoying Annual Christmas Ball, one of the staff social functions, held at the Fort Vermilion Community Complex.
